The maximum amount of fines one can accrue for a single item at the Omaha Public Library is $5--unless, that is, one keeps the item for over three months, in which case its status changes to "lost" and you are charged $25.
Knox's term, conveniently, is 10 weeks long--not quite three months. So, ideally, I could check out textbooks from the library and return them over breaks, thus never having to pay more than $5 for a book.
The only potential obstacle to this devious plan is if the library does not have the books you need, which is exactly what I discovered shortly after a) coming up with the devious plan, and b) trying to execute it.
Damnit.
