I have decided that doing speech was the single best decision I have ever made. The skills I learned, the experiences I had, and the connections I made are indispensable and would have been impossible to get anywhere else. My draw room family is made up of some of the best people in the world. We will reunite at Lincoln Southeast in two weeks. When I was still a competitor on the circuit, we had a saying that Lincoln Southeast was the tournament from hell because all of your old friends who went off to college come back and wreak judging havoc. I am so happy to have become a part of that tradition.
(Also, Lincoln Southeast has a live chicken in one of its science classrooms. It clucks impatiently during speeches. It is my hero.)
I got my NFL Alumni magazine in the mail the other day, and I read it cover to cover, even though it's a pretty poorly designed magazine and I am a design snob.
If Jerome does not slot me to judge extemp finals, I will be seriously pissed.
