Nationals, apparently, is. Collegians are no longer allowed to directly submit articles to the Phoenix. Instead, collegians may submit article ideas, and if nationals finds them interesting, some national person may contact the chapter and write the article herself.
This is a) gravely insulting to my skills as a journalist, writer, and collegiate officer (I don't mean to make this seem like an attack on me personally; this is offensive to all collegiate editors) and b) was an executive decision that was not discussed with or even communicated to chapters. While I do not like the top-down structure of my sorority, I have grown to tolerate it--but I expect that I will at least be told when decisions are made.
If collegiate editors do not write quality articles, DO NOT PUBLISH THEM. This is how the real world works. Moreover, if collegiate editors do not write quality articles, they should not be editors.
I wrote a nice little jab in the article ideas suggestion box.
(More genius from the nationals media people: our communications and marketing coordinator, with whom I am extremely unimpressed, contacted our chapter treasurer, of all people, to let her know that she liked the alumnae newsletter that I made in its entirety. This would not be so irking were my contact information (and general chapter contact information) not plastered all over the newsletter. The treasurer? Really?!?)
