On Friday, I am giving a brief talk based on the work of Jürgen Habermas. Habermas argued that German reunification cannot be used as model for possible Korean reunification because there are too many societal and ideological differences between the two cases; instead, Korea should learn from the German experience.
I think Habermas is too optimistic. If Korean unification ever does happen, the form of society that prevails will depend upon whoever invades the other first. Negotiations? Please, let's be realistic.

I mean, West Germany and the United States basically invaded East Germany. East Germans wanted the wall down, but there weren't many negotiations.
