Things I've Recently Picked Up:
Dashboard Confessional: The Shade of Poison Trees Considerably tamer than Dashboard's other discs, this album is nevertheless an acoustic treat. It all blends together into one big calming agent. Not really what I expected, and therefore I'm a bit disappointed, but it's very lyrical and soothing nonetheless.
Emery: I'm Only a Man This is quite a bit different from Emery's other stuff. I'd almost say it's...happier, if that's even possible. Definitely not as dark, though. I like it well enough. But I like their other albums better.
Minus the Bear: Highly Refined Pirates I can't put my finger on what makes me like Minus the Bear, but I do. A lot. You wouldn't think indie rock would be mesmerizing, but, well, this is. Listen, foos.
Minus the Bear: Planet of Ice I FOUND IT. FINALLY. They really hate the filesharing, but I got the best of them! I win. At life. BOW BEFORE ME.
Ahem.
Nightwish: Angels Fall First Pretty. Very pretty. I adore symphonic metal. It's classical showing its dark side. A very nice debut album from a very beautiful band. Now if I could only find Dark Passion Play...
Serj Tankian: Elect the Dead "Don't you see the bodies burning/desolate and full of yearning/dying from anticipation/choking from intoxication?" Say that five times fast rhythmically, and you'll understand why I love Serj's solo debut. It's biting, fast, and while it obviously has a strong SOAD influence, it's very much his own. Nice work.
Shitdisco: Kingdom of Fear Okay, so the name tends to turn people off at first. But all it is Depeche Mode, Shiny Toy Guns, and The Faint smashed together. Oh yes. Dance party in a jewel case. Nice beats, nice vocals. And, as dance music goes, the lyrics aren't too shabby either. (Now, Justice are the kings of bad dance music. Just thought I'd throw that out there.)
