Havok, you speak to me.
Anyway.
Let's see what I've recently picked up.
The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Come on. It's Sgt. Pepper. It's one of the most influential rock albums of the past century. And it's by The Beatles. You have to love it.
Building 429: Rise I'm not one for over-the-top praise albums, but these are heartfelt, powerful songs with simple yet punchy lyrics that go for the home stretch and get there. You'll play "I Believe" on repeat if you're a Jesus freak like me. (Hey. Jesus rocks.)
Dave Gahan: Hourglass Finally. Dave, you carry Depeche Mode. If anything, this proves it. Great solo album, and keep up the good work. A bit edgier and more modern than traditional DM (a tad bit Blaqk Audio-ish), but very, very catchy, and very, very Dave Gahan. He's the man.
The Receiving End of Sirens: The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi New discovery of the week! And it's a good one. I can't put my finger on what makes this the "experimental" rock that they define themselves as, but I wouldn't describe them any other way. Passionate, powerful, and beautiful--definitely worth a listen. Or five.
Rufus Wainwright: Rufus Wainwright I've loved Rufus ever since I heard "Hallelujah" on the Shrek soundtrack. His lyrics are true (in a bigger sense than the surface value of the word), and his melodies are simple yet elegant. Lovely if you like acoustic guitar stuff.
Shiny Toy Guns: We Are Pilots Major Label Version Let me clarify. Before today, I had the version that STG released before they were signed with a major label. It's got a bit different track listing, which I frankly like better, but this one has some new gems on it as well. Take my advice: get both versions. STG is well worth the money. It's electronica for the soul.
So They Say: Life in Surveillance A good album if you want 40 minutes of straight rock. Nothing exceptional, but I've always enjoyed So They Say's supercharged lyrics. Good stuff, guys.
Things I Have But Have Yet to Listen To:
Dashboard Confessional: The Shade of Poison Trees
Nightwish: Angels Fall First
Broken Social Scene: You Forgot it In People
Building 429: Iris to Iris
Emery: I'm Only a Man
Shitdisco: Kingdom of Fear
DCFC: You Can Play These Songs With Chords
